another half past five

All's well now. T'wasn't, a while ago. Well, Professor Twist's missing from the scene and if I'm going to be honest and talk about things, then I might as well write about how horribly upset I was a while ago (ago or back? who knows...Professor's gone...) and I did even shed some tears (yes, I tend to get soppy) and then I sat up straight (still sitting upright) and said o myself, " If he's going to behave this way, I'm going to behave my own way. And I shall not be overtly affected and I shall not shed terrible tears". Somehow, it seems to have worked. I haven't shed a single tear since and I've had my third cup of coffee for the night (night? morning? who knows...the Professor's gone..)

I've had a couple of ideas over the past few days. I'm not absolutely sure about them but for the sake of refreshing honesty (and if I'm going to be honest then I might as well write this here...blah blah ...) I will write about these half formed, seeds of ideas.

~ I'm really curious about the names we give our blogs. So, If you explain why your blog is named so, I will tell my story too (it's not soppy).

That's one.
And the other one is this.

~ I'm thinking...it's a good idea to try and improve my drawing skills...er...caricature skills. So, if you're interested, send me a mugshot of yours and I'll make one for you.

Here's the deal. For each caricature I make, you must tell me a fine story. About anything. Without morals/ dotted with nuances and lunacies.
And oh..if you're bothered about sharing your mugshot, I promise to trash it as soon as I'm done with the drawing.
Now, this might take a while (if anyone does send me a mugshot), due to my very busy, topsy turvy, cribbing body clock, nocturnal schedule. But I will send it to you as soon as I can.

Send them to me at nativetourist at gmail dot com.

I hope to hear from you soon!

I like this game. I'll start. And I've been curious for some time about your affinity for the babushka, which is not a word from precisely your part of the world, I think.

My blog is called Singing Moon for intersecting symbolic reasons. All are old tides that pull at me equally strongly:

Because coyotes are well-known to sing (okay, howl...) on moonlit nights; because night and the moon are powerful, recurring symbols in my poetry, where I often 'sing moon', if you like.

Because among many Native American races, the singing moon is the moon, or month, of harvest, usually in October or November. I suppose my blog is a metaphorical kind of harvest...

Because I am a partly mythical coyote, rising out of the very old legends of those same Native Americans, who usually limn me as bit of a prankster, but not without my own code of ethics, and not without my own role in the cosmos.

And if you've read much Dylan Thomas, perhaps you'll see a fleeting, oblique reference to lines from the monumental In My Craft or Sullen Art, although I surely don't put myself anywhere near his level:

In my craft or sullen art
Exercised in the still nightWhen only the moon rages
and the lovers lie abed
With all their griefs in their arms
I labour by singing light
Not for ambition or bread
Or for the strut and trade of charms
On the ivory stages
But for the common wages
Of their most secret heart.

Not for the proud man apart
From the raging moon I write
On these spindrift pages
Nor for the towering dead
With their nightingales and psalms
But for the lovers, their arms
Round the griefs of the ages
Who pay no praise or wages
Nor heed my craft or art.

Maybe there are other reasons, but I can't remember them just now, or don't know them yet. Okay! Someone else's turn!

Okay, I shall reveal all.. but just about the PILL CALLED LIFE

it is from something I wrote long ago

Dear Life.
Each Day I swallow you whole
Hoping redemption is on its way
But, you tend to dissappoint
in your own perversive ways...

But the name has a bigger story and many connections maybe I will tell you in some time why I chose this name :
cheers

This game is getting interesting! I hope more people jump in too.

So, my story isn't a story at all.
I have a love for certain words. Till recently, my two favourite words were idiosyncrasy and lackadaisical...!

As I said, love of words...I'm a big one for words that sound the way they mean (will someone please tell me how to spell it...I know the word but not the spelling).

I think Babushka is a soft, fuzzy word, as I'd like a Babushka to be, not a grandmother, but a wolly muffler, I imagine it in a pastel powder blue. Now, the two go together for me...babushkas and anadems. They do have some romantic inclinations but these aren't soppy. While babushka is also a warm term of endearment, anadem sounds a bit thorny. They make a good pair.

Like I said, no story, just some idiosyncratic love of words...

The spelling of the idiosyncratic word you seek, I think, is 'onomatopoeia'. A good word, one that rolls lots of different sounds over one's tongue, then floats into a final vowel.

And, if I were to tell you a story for the second part of the game, would you consider drawing the caricature from the mug shot right here? I imagine you know this already, but if you click on my name, you go to a larger version in my profile -- the better to see my sharpish nose, large ears, and appraising eyes...

Shall I draw you a partly mythical caricature, then?

har har!

coyote said...

Now you're getting it!

ether said...

Oh. Am I?

By the way, I've been trying to draw it...I'm glad you aren't a rabbit. Coyotes are faintly easier to draw.

Sigh

And, why don't we play the rhyming game anymore?

My blog name.Well, I sat for about 5 minutes and wondered what language they woud speak in (on?) Avalon. 'Avalondish' perhaps? It might even be 'Avalonian', but I AM Avalonian, so that won't do at all. Avalondish it is. But that could be what they call a dish from Avalon. Dang it. *snore*..*splutter* So REALLY, my blog's name is 'Avalondish'. Poked When Poken? Totally arbitrary pseudonym.

Coyotes are faintly easier to draw, but bunnies are faintly easier for us to snack upon...

Awesome! An idiosyncratic love of words! Pretty much the same reason why my blog is name what it is. It's the obvious play on pretty pictures, which is what I hoped my blog would contain!

I'm sure you'd love Zebediah Plush!
